Comments are the part of Facebook history people forget about. A post sits on your own profile where you can see it. A comment can remain visible under someone else's post, in a group, on a public Page, in notifications, or in screenshots years after you wrote it.

Which Facebook Comments Can You Delete?
Before you start, it helps to know what Facebook allows:

How to Delete a Single Comment
On Desktop
- Find your comment under the post
- Hover over it and click the ⋯ button that appears next to it
- Click Delete
- Confirm with Delete
On the Facebook App
- Find your comment
- Press and hold the comment
- Tap Delete, then confirm
Facebook's help page on how to delete or edit your comment walks through the same steps. If you only want to fix a typo or an outdated opinion, Edit is an alternative — but the edit history may still be visible to others.
How to Delete Comments Other People Left on Your Posts
On your own posts, you control the comment section:
- Open the post
- Click the ⋯ next to the comment
- Choose Delete to remove it, or Hide so only the author and their friends can still see it

How to Find All the Comments You Have Written
You cannot scroll through every post you have ever commented on. Activity Log keeps the full list for you:
- Click your profile picture → Settings & privacy → Activity log
- In the left sidebar, open Interactions → Comments
- Use the date filter to jump to a specific year
From here you can open any comment's menu and delete it. The catch is that you still delete them one by one. With a few hundred comments per year of Facebook use, that quickly turns into hours.
How to Delete All Your Facebook Comments at Once
DeleteActivity automates the Activity Log loop for comments. It runs inside your browser using the Facebook session you are already logged into — no password required. The workflow below was verified with version 1.9.0 in September 2026.
Step 1 — Install the Extension
Install DeleteActivity from the Chrome Web Store, then open facebook.com in the same browser.
Step 2 — Select Only Comments
Click the DeleteActivity icon. Under Select data type to delete, all three types are selected by default. Untick Posts and Likes so only Comments stays selected.
Step 3 — Set a Date Range or Keyword
- To delete comments from a certain period, set the Date Range — for example, January 2012 to December 2018.
- To delete comments about one topic, type a word or phrase into Keyword. It matches the text of your comments and is not case sensitive.
- To delete all Facebook comments, leave the range on All.
Step 4 — Start Scan and Clean
Click Start Scan and Clean. DeleteActivity scans your comment history and removes the items that match your selected filters. Comments are removed directly — they do not go to Trash — so double-check those filters before starting.
A good habit: run a narrow test first, such as one month, and check Activity Log before running a wider range.
Step 5 — Watch the Progress Panel
A panel on the Facebook tab shows matched, deleted, and failed counts. Pause or Stop at any time. If the browser closes or the run stops early, open the extension again and click Resume to continue from where it left off.

Tips Before You Delete Facebook Comments
- Deleted comments cannot be restored. Unlike profile posts, comments skip Trash.
- Use specific keywords. Keyword matching looks for the text anywhere in the comment, so a short word like "art" also matches "party" and "start".
- Replies may go with it. Deleting your comment can also remove the thread of replies under it on some posts.
- Screenshots are outside your control. Deleting a comment removes it from Facebook, not from anyone's camera roll.
FAQ
How do I delete all my comments on Facebook at once?
Facebook has no single delete-all control for comments; its native workflow generally requires repeated per-comment actions. To clean them in bulk, use a tool like DeleteActivity: select Comments, choose All or a date range, and click Start Scan and Clean.
Does Facebook notify someone when I delete my comment?
Facebook normally does not send a new notification solely because you delete a comment. Someone may still have read it or seen it in an earlier notification preview.
Can I delete comments in a group I already left?

Can I recover a deleted Facebook comment?
No. There is no Trash or undo for comments.
Why did some comments fail to delete?
